Windows
Windows is a brand name from Microsoft, I suppose the two really are interchangeable these days because without one you do not have the other. There has been many versions as such of Windows that have either hit the mark or not.
- 95, very good start for a GUI interface that not many people had really seen before (k. Windows 3.1 but was that really a GUI Interface that we would call one? )
- 98, this is where things started to get interesting.
- 98 SE (second edition) the best version of 98 and many people did not upgrade till XP was out because 98 SE was just soo nice back then.
- ME (Millennium edition) felt like a version that was pushed out of the door, did not really fit in.
- XP the best version in many peoples eyes and one that Microsoft are still trying to update/fix because allot of companies are still using it and thus Windows 7 has a virtual mode to allow for XP applications to work (many customers did not upgrade from XP – Vista because of XP applications)
- Vista similar to ME, trying to be soo much more than it was, filling soo many goals without really fitting any.
- Windows 7, appears to be similar to XP in regard to 98 SE and ME, a far better version than Vista with also a XP virtual mode to allow applications to be used. I suppose since allot of people are still using XP then Windows 7 needs to be similar!!!
That is the main desktop versions, the server versions have taken a slightly different step because of the back end usage of the Windows environment.
